Ham Sat Tracker (hamsattracker.com) is a free tool provided by Dave Burniston (VE3AKK) to help amateur radio operators predict satellite passes and plan their operations. By using this site you agree to the following terms.
Accuracy of Predictions
Pass predictions are calculated using orbital element data (TLEs) published by CelesTrak and the SGP4 propagation model. Predictions are estimates based on orbital mechanics and are subject to the following limitations:
- TLE age — orbital elements degrade in accuracy over time as satellites experience atmospheric drag and other perturbations. Predictions made with data more than a few days old should be treated as approximate. The app displays the age of your TLE data and warns when it is more than 7 days old.
- Local obstructions — predictions assume an unobstructed horizon. Trees, buildings, terrain, and other obstructions may reduce the usable portion of a pass.
- Satellite manoeuvres — some satellites occasionally adjust their orbits. A manoeuvre will invalidate predictions until fresh TLEs are published.
- Timing precision — AOS and LOS times are accurate to within a few seconds under normal conditions with fresh TLE data.
Always update TLEs before a planned operating session for the best accuracy.
Frequency Data
Uplink and downlink frequencies listed in Ham Sat Tracker are sourced from published AMSAT frequency charts and operator reports. Frequencies are believed to be accurate at the time of publication but may change without notice.
- Doppler-corrected frequencies are calculated values — actual frequencies during a pass will vary based on your precise location, the satellite's exact position, and local conditions
- Always verify frequencies with AMSAT before operating, particularly for satellites you haven't worked recently
- CTCSS tones listed are based on published operating requirements — verify with current sources before operating
Satellite Status
Satellites included in Ham Sat Tracker are selected based on recent operating reports from the amateur satellite community. However:
- Satellites can go offline, change operating modes, or cease operation without advance notice
- The ISS repeater operates on a schedule that changes frequently — always check ariss.org before planning an ISS pass
- Check the AMSAT Satellite Status Page for current operating reports before a session
Acceptable Use
Ham Sat Tracker is intended for use by licensed amateur radio operators. By using this site you confirm that:
- You hold a valid amateur radio licence for your jurisdiction, or are using the tool for educational purposes under appropriate supervision
- You are responsible for complying with all applicable regulations governing amateur radio operation in your country, including frequency privileges, power limits, and identification requirements
- You will not use this tool to facilitate unlicensed transmission on amateur radio frequencies
AntTrack and Device Sensors
The AntTrack antenna pointing feature uses your device's compass (magnetometer) and tilt sensor (accelerometer). Sensor accuracy varies between devices and can be affected by nearby metal objects, magnetic cases, and electronic interference. AntTrack pointing guidance is an aid to manual antenna positioning — always verify pointing against the sky view diagram and your own judgment.
